ISTA Tests

ISTA Tests

EUROLAB offers ISTA testing services to a wide variety of sectors. ISTA, short for the International Safe Transit Association, offers a set of test specifications based on ASTM test methods to simulate different distribution environments and screening tests.

ISTA Tests

EUROLAB is accredited by ISTA as a testing laboratory and our experts are highly experienced in conducting tests in accordance with this standard.

ISTA testing allows you to test your package under controlled conditions, therefore providing you with reproducible data that can be used to support your design work and / or build package performance. ISTA testing allows you to break down complex distribution dynamics into separate test parameters when using a limited number of test samples.

It also provides real-time monitoring of packaging failure, providing a better understanding of how the packaging reacts to applied stress. This way, you will get a more accurate assessment of your packaging design that can prevent overpacking.

Which ISTA test method is right for me?

The following factors should be considered when deciding which ISTA test protocol should be used:

  • 1 Batch tests will be considered "screening" tests and do not specifically represent any distribution environment.
  • 2 Series tests are "partial simulations".
  • The 3 Series are general simulations and represent different distribution environments in each distribution environment, which are also modulated by package shape and weight, distance and ambient conditions. Our experts often recommend series 3 tests when asked.

If you are always going to ship your products from "A" to destination "B", ISTA testing to test method 4AB can be a very interesting option, as this test method is the most customizable it gives you the best possible deployment simulation.

If you need help designing the best possible test plan for your needs, our experts will be happy to assist you.

ISTA Standards are divided into five main test series

  • Series 1: Non-Simulation Integrity Performance Tests (7 protocols)
  • 2 Series: Partial Simulation Performance tests (3 protocols)
  • 3 Series: General Simulation Performance Tests (6 protocols)
  • 4 Series: Advanced Simulation Performance Test (1 protocol)
  • 6 Series: Member Performance Tests (3 protocols)
