ISTA 3A Test

ISTA 3A Test

The ISTA 3A tests packaged products for package delivery system shipment weighing 150 lbs or less. This test is used to simulate the shipping environments of courier companies. ISTA 3A is often requested by internet vendors. EUROLAB offers ISTA 3A testing as part of Package testing services. Alternatively, ASTM D4169 may be considered.

ISTA 3A Test

ISTA 3A usage and factors to consider

ISTA 3A is a general simulation test for individually packaged products that will challenge the ability of the package and products to withstand the distribution hazards in the small package delivery system. Packages to be tested according to this standard must be lighter than 150 lbs. These test packs categorize according to shape into four categories. The four shapes are: standard, small, straight, and long. Tests and test conditions vary depending on the packaging shape. When testing according to ISTA 3A, the package and product are evaluated together and are not evaluated separately, ie both must be tested together.

Test samples can be tested under certain atmospheric transition conditions such as humidity, low temperature or low pressure (altitude simulation). Please contact us if you have any questions or need help. Our testers will be happy to work with you to tailor the best possible packaging test plan for your needs.

ISTA 3A requires at least 1 sample to be tested. A higher number of samples is recommended for final packaging design purposes; ideally 5 or more. However, only one must be tested to ensure compatibility.
